Kingsbridge Estuary Decorative and Fine Arts
Society, KEDFAS, is a Society whose Members are
neither experts nor artists but ordinary people who are
interested in improving their knowledge of the “Fine Arts”
in the widest sense.
KEDFAS was established in 1993 by Dr and Mrs Tony Barford.
One of the aims of the Society is to encourage the growth
of friendship, but most of all we meet to combine learning
with enjoyment.
The Society is divided in its meetings into two. One
meeting in the evening of the last Wednesday in the month
and the other the following morning (Thursday).
The Wednesday evening meeting held at 7.15 for 8.00pm at
Kingsbridge Community College. The Thursday morning meeting
is held at the Reel Cinema, Fore Street Kingsbridge at 9.45
for 10.30am.
Membership of KEDFAS is open to all. There is no need for
any sponsorship, nomination or other means of supporting an
application for membership.
Membership entitles members to attend the lecture
programme, and in addition to receive the quarterly arts
journal “NADFAS Review”
The annual programme year, from September to June (but
excluding December) consists of nine monthly meetings of
illustrated Lectures by acclaimed experts on the widest
variety of subjects. The programme is selected by the
Society Committee and aims to offer something to suit all
tastes. Each meeting lasts approximately one to one and a
half hours.
In addition to the nine lectures, the Society conducts
Study or Special Interest Days (usually a full-day series
of lectures on a particular topic) during each programme
year.
Day visits to art collections, historic venues, houses and
gardens in the South West feature in the year.
Members are encouraged to join and take part in the
extremely important Church Recording group. To date,
Salcombe, South Pool and Thurlestone Parish Churches have
been the subject of the in depth recording process, carried
out by KEDFAS members.
Finally we arrange occasional events of a cultural and
social nature, including a Christmas event, when members
from both Wednesday evening and Thursday morning can meet
together.
